WHAT ARE THE SARTORIUS MUSCLE FUNCTIONS?
The sartorius muscle is the longest muscle in the human body. It runs from the hip diagonally down the inner tibia. According to the Inner Body website, the sartorius muscle gets its name due to the fact that when it is contracted it produces the position a tailor takes when seated. Tailor, in Latin, is "sartor."
HIP FLEXION
The sartorius muscle has three functions at the hip and another at the knee. The first movement it affects at the hip is flexion. This means that when the leg is lifted into the air, the sartorius is being activated.

HIP ABDUCTION
The second movement the sartorius is involved in is hip abduction, or moving the leg laterally away from the body's midline. This is not to be confused with hip adduction, or bringing the leg toward the midline, which the sartorius does not do.
EXTERNAL ROTATION
The third movement at the hip is external rotation. External rotation occurs when the entire leg is rotated so that the knee and toes are pointing away from the midline.
KNEE FLEXION
The only movement the sartorius affects at the knee is the flexion. Knee flexion is when the knee becomes bent, bringing the calves and hamstrings as close together as possible.
