Gastrocnemius/腓腹筋(Hifukukin)/腓肠肌(Féichángjī)

The largest and most superficial muscle of the calf of the leg that arises by two heads from the condyles of the femur and has its tendon of insertion incorporated as part of the Achilles tendon

Origin
Lower posterior surface of the femur above the medial condyle.
Lateral condyle of the femur.

Insertion
Posterior surface of the calcaneus via the achilles tendon.


Actions
Plantar flexion.

Innervation
Tibial nerve.

Daily uses
Standing on tip toes.
